Andy Whing has resigned as manager of National League North side Brackley Town. The club announced his departure on Thursday evening after a tricky start to the 2026/27 campaign.

Whing, a 41-year-old former Oxford United defender who became a cult hero at the Kassam Stadium, took over at St. James Park in February. He was unable to steer the club away from relegation from the National League last season and has now left with the team third from bottom in the sixth tier. Brackley have eight points from their opening eight games, leaving them 21st in the standings.

In a statement on the club website, Brackley Town Football Club thanked Whing for his efforts. The club said he had assembled a youthful group with considerable promise this season. It also stated that he had always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity while representing the club.

The Board recorded its sincere thanks and expressed genuine gratitude for the work Whing did with players and staff. It respects his decision and wishes him well for the future.

Whing previously managed Banbury United, leading them to the National League for the first time in their history. He had also coached Oxford United's Under-18 side after concluding his playing career with that club.

His final match was a defeat at Morecambe last Saturday, which meant the team had only won one of its previous five games. The club now has an FA Cup match this Saturday and called for supporters to unite behind the team. The statement noted that unity has always been a key strength for the club. A further update will be provided in due course, with the next league game being a home fixture against Scarborough Athletic.
