Brackley Town Seeks to Complete Summer Squad Overhaul Before 2026/27 Kickoff
Recruitment Drive Hurdles and Progress
With just a couple of weeks left until their season opener on August 8, Brackley Town is racing against time as it looks to complete its squad overhaul ahead of the National League North campaign. The club currently has only 13 players in the fold-12 signed in and one prospective new addition waiting on other commitments.
“Looking at our recruitment efforts from the outside, things might seem easy,” stated Joe Taylor, head of recruitment. “But we’re working tirelessly to get the right individuals in, ensuring quality and depth for next season.”
Key Challenges and Targets
Taylor emphasizes the importance of focusing on top targets over quick fixes. Although 11 new players have been brought in since last season’s relegation from the National League, two main areas-priority targets not yet signed-are causing concerns.
“A couple of key players we’ve offered contracts to are currently trialling with other league clubs,” explained Taylor. “It’s imperative that we don’t rush into signing anyone, ensuring each player adds value and fits our team requirements.”
Training Progress and Future Plans
The team has shown significant promise in training and games according to Taylor: “Despite the total of 12 signings, it feels more like 15 or even 16 players on paper. Each one is a top priority for us.”
Looking ahead, Brackley Town aims to bring in four to five more new signings by the start of the season. Manager Tim Whing will benefit from this influx as he begins the process of integrating youngsters into his squad.
Building Future Talent and Database
To further strengthen their future prospects, Taylor and colleague Gareth Dean are focusing on building a comprehensive database of players across non-league levels. These reports will help provide detailed analysis to stay ahead of competing teams in scouting and player development.
“By having these databases ready early, we can ensure that we make smarter decisions when it comes to signing players,” Taylor noted. “It’s crucial for our club’s growth and success over the next few seasons.”
