Brackley Town manager Andy Whing is actively looking to add an experienced player to his squad following a midweek defeat. The Saints currently sit 20th in the National League North with five points from five games, having scored six and conceded eight.
Tuesday's 2-0 loss to King's Lynn Town made it clear to Whing that he needs to re-enter the transfer market. The manager pointed to a lack of depth and experience, which was exposed with key players Kyle Morrison, Charlie Cooper, and Will Armitage all out injured. Whing stated the club has been trying to bring in a seasoned former professional to help the team function when important figures are unavailable.
"We've been looking for another experienced player to bring in," Whing said after the match. "We've tried a couple but they are unfortunately asking for way too much money." Brackley have already missed out on several targets, with full-time clubs at higher levels and even National League North newcomers Harborough Town offering more financially. Whing is not optimistic a deal will be done before Saturday's trip to Macclesfield, but work continues behind the scenes.
The National League North programme continues this week with a full slate of fixtures. The recent wet weather caused havoc at Brackley, leading to an abandoned match against South Shields. That game will need to be rescheduled. Elsewhere, Macclesfield host new table-toppers Hebburn Town in a first-versus-third clash, while Oxford City, Brackley's next scheduled league opponent, visit Worksop Town.
Brackley's immediate focus is on climbing from their current lowly position. They are 11 points behind leaders Macclesfield. Fans can track the evolving league picture on our standings page.
A former Brackley Town midfielder made headlines. Scott Pollock, who joined Oxford City from Brackley this summer, scored a first-half hat-trick in his new club's 4-1 away victory against Spennymoor Town last weekend. The 25-year-old helped Brackley gain promotion to the National League before suffering relegation after one season. His performance last weekend demonstrates the quality that has departed the Saints' squad.
The immediate task is the away fixture at Macclesfield this Saturday. Whing's side will be hoping to improve on a recent form line of DLLD. Following that, the next home league game is not until December 26th, when they are set to host Oxford City, who currently sit third in the table. The full schedule of upcoming matches is available on our fixtures page. The search for a new signing continues as the club looks to address an urgent issue in the squad.
