Charlie Cooper scored directly from a corner to give Brackley Town the lead, but they were held to a 1-1 draw by Scarborough Athletic on Saturday. The result at St James Park delivered a first National League North point for new manager Gareth Dean.

The Saints, who sit 21st in the table with nine points from nine games, took the lead in the 27th minute. Cooper’s in-swinging delivery from the left flank eluded everyone and found the net. Scarborough levelled ten minutes after the break when Kieran Weledji finished from close range following a set-piece.

Brackley created several chances to win the game. DJ Sturridge had a good opportunity saved, and a cross from Kieran Coates later struck the crossbar. Goalkeeper Harrison Rhone made a number of saves to keep the scores level.

The draw extends Brackley's recent form to two wins, one draw and two losses in their last five matches. They have a game in hand on many teams above them and will look to use it when they host fourth-placed South Shields on Tuesday night.

Brackley Town host fourth-placed South Shields at St James Park on Tuesday night, the club confirmed. The Saints, who sit 21st in the National League North, have scored eight goals and conceded 17 this season. Manager Gareth Dean said his side must be "more clinical in both boxes." The fixture is scheduled for a 6:45 p.m. Kick-off.
