AFC Telford United manager Kevin Wilkin has called for higher standards after his side started the season with a second consecutive defeat. The team, which began the National League North season with a 2-1 loss to Brackley Town, was beaten by the same scoreline on the weekend at Worksop Town.

Wilkin, who is no stranger to managing in the lower leagues, expressed his disappointment with the performance of his team. 'I’m obviously disappointed to lose the game,' he said. 'I don't think we've done well enough over the 90 minutes. The levels and standards we know that we need to get to haven't been maintained for long enough.' Wilkin acknowledged that there were some good moments during the match but highlighted that the team's performance was inconsistent.

'Players have gone in there, where they need to go and dominate the opposition, and I don't think we have today,' Wilkin continued. 'I think you can make a small argument that we could have got a draw out of the game, but I think they probably had the better moments and chances than us.'

The manager's comments come as Telford United continues to struggle to find their footing in the new season. The team initially fell behind but managed to equalize through Charlie Williams, but the hosts found a winner to secure the victory. Wilkin's call for higher standards is a clear indication that the team needs to improve their performance to avoid further setbacks.
