Kevin Wilkin Expresses Optimism Amidst AFC Telford United's Season Start
The Bucks Begin with a Defeat Against Brackley Town
AFC Telford United, known as the Bucks, started their new season on a disappointing note with a 2-1 defeat against Brackley Town at home. Quickfire goals from Kai Yearn and Josh Tomlinson secured the victory for the visitors, while Matty Stenson's late consolation attempt was not enough to turn the tide.
Stenson, who started from the bench due to limited pre-season minutes, showed his worth by scoring a goal. Manager Kevin Wilkin praised Stenson's performance: 'Stenno hasn’t done a lot of pre-season for one reason and another. He got on and does what he does by getting on the end of things, and has done really well.'
Positive Outlook Despite Challenges
Wilkin is optimistic about the team’s future despite the early setback. He highlighted the absence of key players Jamie Meddows and Jordan Cranston, who were regular starters last season. Wilkin also mentioned that five players have been lost through the close season, making their replacements difficult.
'Jamie has been a big player for us and not having Cranno as well today. They’re three players that would’ve been regular starters for us last season,' said Wilkin.
Wilkin added: 'There’s probably five there that we’ve lost through the close season and they are difficult to replace. We’ll only know if we have replaced them as we go further into the season, but I think we’ve got some good boys there and there’s lots to feel positive about.'
The manager's optimism is grounded in his belief that the team has quality players who can step up and fill the gaps left by those lost through the close season.
