Brackley Town captain Gareth Dean has announced his retirement at the end of the season after a remarkable decade with the club. The 36-year-old defender, who scored at Wembley during Brackley's FA Trophy victory in 2018, played a pivotal role in their promotion as National League North champions last season. Despite a challenging season in the National League, where Brackley has already faced relegation, Dean's leadership has been invaluable. He also stepped in as interim manager for three matches after Gavin Cowan's departure to Shrewsbury Town in January. Dean expressed his decision to retire, stating he wanted to be remembered for his contributions rather than overstaying his welcome. He has made 36 appearances this season and will play his final home match against Aldershot Town on Saturday. The Brackley Town board has expressed their gratitude, stating that while they will miss him on the pitch, they are excited to have him continue in an off-field role, where his experience will benefit the club's future endeavors.
