Saints Suffer Brutal Defeat
Brackley Town boss Andy Whing has delivered a brutally honest verdict on his team's 2-0 defeat to King's Lynn Town, describing the performance as 'men against boys'.
The Saints had claimed four points from their opening two games against AFC Telford United and Hebburn Town, but were well below par against King's Lynn. Despite a positive 10-minute spell in the second half, Brackley couldn't match the visitors.
Missing captain Kyle Morrison, vice-skipper Charlie Cooper, and centre-back Will Armitage through injury, the Saints were disjointed and struggled to knit together any real consistency. King's Lynn were also the better runners on the night and displayed far more physicality to come out on top in the majority of their duels.
Whing's Verdict
"I just felt it was men against boys, both for age and everything that happened on the football pitch," Whing said. "We looked very young and naive. Coops is a massive miss for us, the two centre-halves struggled without him in front and the two midfielders struggled without him behind them."
The two goals conceded on the night frustrated Whing - and the 900-strong home supporters - to no end, as they were so avoidable. King's Lynn left winger Jesse Nwabueze was left completely unmarked for the first and it was his cross which ended up going in off George Harmon for an own goal. The second, meanwhile, was from a set-piece as Linnets captain Michael Clunan's deep free-kick was nodded in by centre-half Ethan Warne.
Whing continued: "We struggled tonight and got bullied, basically. You say I'm honest, but I'm not going to lie to anybody, you can see for yourselves. I didn't get too high after Saturday's draw with Hebburn, I didn't get too high after the win over Telford. I'm definitely not going to get too low tonight from just one performance."
Next Fixture
Brackley Town will look to bounce back from this defeat when they face Macclesfield FC away on August 22, with several days to get a grip on what happened against the Linnets. It certainly won't be easy against a team currently fourth in the National League North, especially with Morrison, Cooper, and Armitage still out, but the Saints will give it their all.
